The launch of the Mesopotamia Community Sewing Center was held today at the Hotchandani Plaza in Belize City. With the scarcity of jobs, women in the Mesopotamia division have been looking for a way to earn an income. Councillor Dr. Candice Pitts heard these women cries and responded by providing a sewing center. Dr. Pitts told the media how the center will be able to assist the women.
Dr.Candice Pitts, PUP Standard Bearer for Mesopotamia: “At this point we are catering primarily for single and unemployed women, young and old to help them to generate their own income to be self sufficient and to feel a sense of self empowerment through generating their own income. We will provide training for them for up to four weeks and then after that they will start to produce. The vision of myself and the partners is for us to outgrow the space, as you can see it’s a smaller space you want to be able to outgrow it where we can move into a space that may accommodate a hundred or so employees because we need to start producing our own clothes.”
Dr. Pitts is also the PUP Standard Bearer for Mesopotamia constituency.
