So it’s a wonderful day. It’s such a wonderful occasion. We see all the machines that have been presented, the room is ready, the ladies are ready to go and I pray and hope that together they will be able to do beautiful things.”

Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: Another main speaker was Ambassador of the Republic of China Taiwan in Belize Her Excellency Lily Li-Wen Hsu.

Lily Li-Wen Hsu, Ambassador of the Republic of China Taiwan in Belize: “This beautiful village is probably the farthest place that this women’s empowerment project has ever been. The women here that we partnered with, the women’s group here is a very resilient group that initiated this women’s group during the pandemic and this is exactly our women’s project’s reason for us to promote this project. We want to help those women who have been hit hard during the pandemic so this partnership will surely help these women in this village to develop themselves, earn some income, improve their livelihood and probably become entrepreneurs some day.”

Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: Pioneer member of Tumul Uj Mopan Maya Women’s Group Dalia Sho spoke of the project.

Dalia Sho, Pioneer Member, Tumul Uj Mopan Maya Women’s Group: “This is one way of empowering our women and also having them to move forward and also helping themselves to be entrepreneurs. So in that manner for them to be able to help themselves sustain when it comes to financial constraints. Also we are happy to announce that this project is going to continue, that we are going to give classes for our students at the upper level after the ladies have learned and graduated from this session they’re going to give classes to our students at San Francisco de Jeronimo RC School. Within our project proposal it has been over $20,000 and includes about eight machines, we do have our own as well so that’s complementing that. We do get funding for materials, for supporting the ladies, for feeding them, for paying instructors for them we have two instructors which are from the same village here and one of them is a single mother so that’s one way in contributing to them so that they can be able to help themselves and like I said empowering is our main mission and supporting our ladies.”

Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: Other speakers included representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alex Perez and Tumul Uj Women’s Group leader Regina Caal. Cultural entertainment was provided by students during Monday’s midmorning ceremony held at the compound of San Francisco de Jeronimo RC School.
