The Women’s Parliamentary Caucus held a forum today, focusing on raising awareness of domestic violence and discrimination against women in line with the Convention for the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The event emphasized the urgent need for gender equality and the inclusion of gender perspectives in policies and decision-making processes. Love News spoke with Janelle Chanona, Chair of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus on the need to raise awareness.
Belize initially singed this Convention in 1990, today’s discussions centered on creating pathways for these women to share their experiences and contribute to shaping solutions for systemic issues they face. Chanona further explained that today’s forum is about giving women a platform underscoring that we cannot achieve true gender equality until every woman, regardless of her background or circumstances, is heard and included in decision-making.
The 16 Days calendar has a lineup of activities across the country including more forums and outreach programs with a plan to sustain momentum and drive tangible change. /
