Police have detained Woodrow West for questioning into the killing of 19-year-old, Imarie Galvez. Video clips of the detention of the Verdes’ football player, began circulating last night on social media. The video clip shows the 37-year-old escorted off a football field in Orange Walk by police officers. It was a strange set of circumstances since we were told that West had gone into hiding. Love News spoke with the Manager of the Verdes Football Club, Lorin Fraser, who confirmed that West was never in hiding. He told our News Director that West had gone into work yesterday and had attended training last night, like he has on any ordinary day. As a matter of fact, he noted that West had gone into Belmopan Police Station on Monday to give a statement. Additionally, Fraser says that West has maintained his innocence and has indicated that he had no involvement in the murder of Galvez. Fraser has condemned the tragedy and stated that it is an unfortunate situation that has caused heartbreak all around. Both the victim and West were in the media in March 2022 when he was seen in a video clip assaulting Galvez. Back then, the FFB President, Sergio Chuc, had expressed a zero tolerance for gender-based violence and had suspended West. On this occasion, however, the FFB has refused to give a comment on the situation. Up to news time tonight, no charges have been laid against West. We will keep following this story.
