World Cancer Day is being observed today. It is an international day marked to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage preventative measures, early detection, and treatment. World Cancer Day aims to save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and education about cancer and pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action against the disease. The number one Organization aiming for the welfare of Cancer Patients in Belize is the Belize Cancer Society. Love News caught up with Heather Reneau, Senior Administrator for the society who stated the importance of this day for the survivors and their families.
An epileptic Breast Cancer survivor told Love News the challenges she faced because she considered her condition a stigma.
Reneau stated that Cancer is a real issue facing society and the stigma has to fade in order to put an end to silence deaths.
This year’s theme is “I am and I will”.
