World Pediatric Project Conducts Neonatal Training in Belize Hospitals

World Pediatric Project partnered with the Ministry of Health and Wellness to conduct a series of trainings for hospital staff on Neonatal Resuscitation and Stabilization. The sessions were held at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, the Northern Regional Hospital, and the Southern Regional Hospital. Milagro Garel, Managing Director of the World Pediatric Project (Belize), explained that the goal was to improve the quality of care that babies receive in the districts before being transferred to the national referral hospital.

Garel added that the World Pediatric Project has identified other areas that need additional support and is preparing to host follow-up training sessions.

The sessions were held over a course of six days with 60 participants receiving a certificate to commemorate their completion of the training.  The sessions were facilitated by Dr. Elsie Constanza, Neonatologist of the KHMH, alongside Dr. Elizabeth O’Donnell, and NP Katie Preedy from Nemours Hospital in Delaware, USA.
