The year of the sheep gave way to the Year of the Red Fire Monkey on Monday. We are speaking of the Chinese New Year which commenced on February 8. The Red Fire Monkey is the ninth of the 12 animals in the recurring 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle. Every year, the Belize Chinese Association carries out its usual performance on the streets whereby traditional Chinese garments, dragons and firecrackers are put on display in front of Chinese businesses. Due to the weather, the Belize Chinese Association postponed their celebrations to today and we caught up with Chairman Edmund Quan on the streets of the old capital.
2016 is the 4713th Chinese Year.
