Young Calla Creek Woman Drowns in Mopan River

A young woman of Calla Creek Village, Cayo District, drowned yesterday afternoon in the Mopan River.  20-year-old, Kayla Hernandez, who had been ailing with leukemia and kidney failure had reportedly gone for a swim in the river alone.  Her aunt, Lilian Hernandez went to meet her but found that her niece faced up at the bottom of the shallow portion of the river, about three feet deep.  The body was taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.  Foul play is not suspected.  A post mortem examination is pending.
