Recently appointed Senator Hector Guerra has commended the Briceno administration for the diversity in the appointment of senators. Both Guerra and Senator Brittney Galvez are in their early thirties, which is comparatively young compared to their counterparts. Guerra, a thirty-two-year-old attorney, says that the move can serve to inspire more youths to pursue political careers; a consideration he might make further down the road.

Hector Guerra, Senator: “I think it’s an absolute privilege and I must commend the Government and the Prime Minister of Belize for having confidence in young people. I think more and more we must engage our young people in the process because more and more young people are not attracted to the idea of politics and to what is involved in that process and so I look forward to serving the country in this new role. I think step by step I’m embracing this role and I’d want to first engage and immerse myself in what it means to be a senator.”
We note that, at 30, Senator Galvez is the second youngest female Senator, with the first being Audrey Matura, who was appointed as an opposition senator at age 28 in 1998.
