Youth Charged with Stabbing Police Officer in Belize City

A Belize City youth has been charged for stabbing a police officer. Nineteen-year-old Kijahe Molina appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today charged with a single count of wounding. He pleaded not guilty and asked to explain himself; however, Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola said he did not have to do so at that stage of the court proceedings. Molina was granted bail in the sum of one thousand dollars plus one surety of the same, which he met. He is due back in court on September 19. Molina allegedly stabbed Constable Zani Savla on the night o Monday, July 17, while at Good Will Shop on Central American Boulevard. Reports are that Molina went to the shop at almost nine o’clock but was told he could not enter because the store was closed for business. Molina reportedly got into an altercation with PC Savala, then pulled a knife from the waist of his pants and stabbed him in the left arm. Savala was treated at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and later released.
