The Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) is accepting donations for their Feminine Hygiene Products Drive. The drive’s aim is to help women stay healthy and practice good hygiene. According to Diana Gomez-Peyrefitte, General Secretary for YWCA, there has been a heavy focus on providing less fortunate people with food supplies but not enough focus on providing females with health supplies.
Diana Gomez- Peyrefitte, General Secretary, YWCA: “We decided as an institutions that empowers and works with girls and women that we would like to fill the need that we’ve identified for a need for hygiene products for girls. We thought it would be remiss of us to not do something about the fact that while the rest of the population has been looking at how we feed our people and all that no focus really has been on the hygiene products that girls might not be able to access because of a lack of resources. The YWCA works with vulnerable populations and with girls so we will start with the girls that come through the YWCA. We will reach out to other NGOs that work with women and girls and to help them to identify girls, we think we could also work through area representatives and their offices because they know their constituencies and we think through that way we’ll be able to reach people who are really in need. You can donate sanitary napkins, deodorant, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, mouthwash if you wish, Detol, Savlon, and powder and these are the basic things that girls and women use to keep themselves clean and hygienic and you can donate at the YWCA here at Corner St. Thomas and Freetown Road or you can donate at the Belmopan office of the YWCA as well.”
Items can be donated at the YWCA office located at the corner of St Thomas Street and Freetown Road, Belize City.
