Yesterday while dozens of Belizeans marched for peace in Palestine, a religious group was planning their very own march, but for peace in Israel. Yesterday, a group calling themselves the “United Churches” began promoting a march scheduled for next Wednesday in Belmopan to show support for peace in Israel. Love News understands that the event is being organized by Richard Smith, but it is not in collaboration with the National Council of Churches. Minister of Religious Affairs Henry Charles Usher weighed in on the proposed event and says he supports walking for peace.

Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Constitutional Reform: “I’m glad to hear it’s a walk for peace and I think that’s important because the government has consistently said over and over that we support peace and we support a ceasefire and I believe that any group, a group organizing a march today for Palestine they’re calling for peace, they’re calling for the resolution of hostilities in that region. The group next week I don’t know which group that is but if they are calling for peace then that should be supported as well because I think it’s important that you stand on the side of peace, you stand on the side of the rule of law, you stand on the side of international law. And what this government, the Government of Belize has said consistently is that the state of Israel is violating international law and that has to stop and the international community has said this, the UN Secretary General, United Nations has said this and I think it’s critical that we stand on the right side and on the principle side.”
Our newsroom reached out to the National Evangelic Association of Belize (NEAB) to get their comment on the event, but our messages went unanswered.
