The disruptive behaviors at the Belmopan City Council has been coined as a reflection of the central government’s practices. In fact, Leader of the opposition has informed the media that there are many internal fights happening within the People’s United Party which would soon flow over into the public domain.

Moses Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “This totally highlights the PUP DNA and fabric which is complete dishonesty as far as what they promised in the last municipal elections. In the last municipal elections they promised synchronicity and synergy with central and local government that was the pitch; you have to vote PUP now because we have a PUP government so as they instance of Orange Walk Town who had been around during UDP central governments their promise was that things will happen now because we don’t just have central government we have the Prime Minister who is from Orange Walk. Nothing has happened in Orange Walk. Belmopan is no different. They have been fighting from the very onset. They have been divided the minister and the mayor from the very onset and so who suffers ? The people of Belmopan and so we hope and we have confidence that the people in Belmopan City will certainly rid themselves of the burden of a divided Peoples United Party, of a mayor that has been ineffective due to her battles with the area representative and an area representative that has been complete waste of time.”
Mayor Sheran Palacio is currently in Dubai for COP28.
