Guatemalan Truck Driver Escapes Serious Injury in Highway Accident

Truck driver, Tony Duarte, of Guatemalan nationality, escaped serious injuries this afternoon when the truck he was driving overturned on the George Price Highway. The incident happened at around one o’clock this afternoon near the S Curve in Teakettle Village, Cayo District. Pablo Mendez lives in the area, and saw the entire ordeal unfold.

Pablo Mendez, Eyewitness: “And this truck wasn’t going so fast, I would say about thirty five or maybe forty miles per hour I would say. When I saw him take the curve like he was unbalanced but the problem I guess with the driver is when he felt his container shaking up he touched his brakes and that is when the container sent him straight where he is right now. Because when I went there the police said he was driving maybe excess of the speed, no I was sitting down there behind my kitchen when I saw the truck was coming. There were about ten of them not only him, about ten. So when I saw the truck I said “Wow but when I saw him I saw him go straight.” and I saw the container when it went like this because one night one of them came out like this when it hit a car there and that’s why I say the only problem he might have done, because I’m a driver too, is that he touched his brakes and when he touched his brakes the container touched him and sent him straight. The problem is that when he felt that jerk on his container he touched his brakes I’m gonna tell you the truth he touched his brakes because I am a driver and the container pushed him straight so he couldn’t do anything more than wait for his death or his life.”
