Ladyville Collision Injures Civilian and Two Police Officers, Investigation Underway

A civilian and two police officers were injured in a road traffic incident today in Ladyville. The collision between the green SUV and police mobile patrol pickup occurred shortly after midday on the Philip Goldson Highway near Ladyville Technical High School.  The three people involved received varying injuries and were taken via ambulance to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams explained what transpired and gave an update on the condition of his officers.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “The vehicle was traveling towards Belize City on the Philip Goldson Highway. When we were reaching around where the old Price Barracks used to be they saw a vehicle coming the opposite direction and the vehicle came into the lane of the police mobile and the police were not able to avoid the collision. The two driver sides of both vehicles collided into each other and the police vehicle was eventually knocked off the road. From what I was made to understand is that the two police officers who were in the vehicle were in the vehicle were transported to the KHMH with severe injuries and their injuries were classified as being critical. I believe that by now the prognosis for those two officers have improved slightly so we believe that they will be critically stable, but stable at this time. The driver of the other vehicle likewise was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition and so far we also believe that his condition is also improving. So we’re hoping for the best for all three persons that is the two police officers and the person who was the driver of the other vehicle. So that is where we are at this time.”

Love News understands that the injured civilian is a security guard who was later moved from the KHMH to Belize Healthcare Partners to continue his treatment.
