Belize Red Cross Prepares Needs Assessments for Toledo Fire Victims

The Belize Red Cross (BRC) is preparing to conduct another round of needs assessments for families in the Toledo district affected by fires earlier this year. Over the past two months, the BRC has delivered food and other forms of assistance to almost two hundred families from over twenty communities. Director General of the BRC, Lily Bowman, spoke about the interventions that were done with funding from the Inter-American Development Ban and the International Federation of Red Cross.

She added that, at the beginning of August, the BRC will conduct the assessments to see what has been done and determine where support is still needed.

In May, extremely dry conditions and human actions caused unprecedented fires in the Toledo and Cayo districts, destroying thousands of acres of farmland and impacting hundreds of families.
