A park at Y-not island located in Dangriga was named after the Renowned drum maker, 93-year-old Austin Rodriguez today. His daughter wanted to honor him by giving him a living remnant of his legacy. Rodriguez has played a pivotal role in the development of Garifuna Music with his drum making. He started off making Congo drums then went on to Jimbe and lastly, he went on to making the Primero and the Segundo out of Logs. Love News spoke to his daughter, Verena Rodriguez, about keeping her father’s legacy alive.
Rodriguez was honored last week at the Tribute to Belizean Patriots ceremony.
