The Ladyville Technical High School robotics team is in Guatemala this week representing Belize at the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow robotics competition. After besting nine schools locally to become the national champions, the team is now facing off against Costa Rica and Panama in the finals. The team left Belize yesterday and has been rehearsing their pitch for presentation on Thursday. Dr. Abraham Flowers, local promoter for the competition, says that he is confident in the team’s ability to pitch their product because the students have worked diligently since April in preparation for the competition.
The team is pitching their product, the AODI, which stands for Assistive Oral Device Interface. The AODI is a communication device, designed to assist those who have lost their speech. Flowers explains that the students developed the AODI to assist patients who have had a recent stroke.
The winners will be announced on Thursday night at the competition’s closing ceremony. While in Guatemala the team will also visit various historical sites.
