Today, Galen University and the Kolbe Foundation joined forces to present an enlightening discussion titled, “Beyond Bars” at the Belize Central Prison. The initiative aims to address pressing issues within the criminal justice system and foster rehabilitation among incarcerated individuals. The presentation was led by criminal justice professor Dr. Terrence Alladin, who is well-known for his previous research at the prison. He has focused on recidivism, a term used to describe where individuals released from prison re-offend and find themselves back behind bars. During the presentation, Dr. Alladin explored various concepts, including peace-making criminology and restorative justice, which emphasize healing and reconciliation rather than punishment. He highlighted the importance of understanding the underlying causes of recidivism and the role that education and community support can play in reducing repeat offenses. Additionally, game four of the basketball series between Galen Eagles and the Kolbe Foundation Ballers was held at the prison.
