It was all smiles and speeches today at St. Matthew’s Government School in the Cayo District as the school inaugurated a new building. Last March, the school’s main building was destroyed in an early morning fire. The Ministry of Education partnered with the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing for the construction of the new building, which boasts new classrooms and the capability to expand with an upper flat. Dr. Louis Zabaneh, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, and Minister of Infrastructure Julius Espat, spoke on the importance of the project and how it will benefit residents.
The school’s principal Shakera Berry, said that the structure is more than a building, but a symbol of hope to the students and the villagers.
Chief Engineer in the Ministry of Infrastructure Evondale Moody also attended the inauguration, along with the chairpersons of several villages in the Cayo South constituency.
