A 19-year-old villager from San Pablo in the Toledo District drowned over the weekend. Just after midnight on Sunday, May 25, police responded to a report and went to the river where they found the body of Daniel Bulum. He was motionless, lying face up with some fish tied to his waist. Investigations revealed that Bulum had gone fishing earlier that night along with two others, Miguel Batz and Rolando Xol. The men told police that, while fishing, Bulum went about a hundred yards from them and submerged. When they realized he was not resurfacing, they went after him. By the time they pulled Bulum from the river, he was already unresponsive. His brother, 25-year-old Nelson Bulum was the one to identify the body for the police. Daniel Blum’s body now lies at the Southern Regional Hospital Morgue, pending a post-mortem examination.
