Orange Walk House Fire Destroys Upper Flat, Electrical Fault Suspected

A house in Orange Walk town was severely damaged by fire on Saturday morning. Around 9:30, the fire broke out in the upper flat of the building located at the corner of Santa Ana and Aurora Streets. Firefighters responded and managed to extinguish the blaze. While the structure itself is still standing, the inside of the upper flat was destroyed. Fortunately, no-one was injured as the occupants were able to escape the burning building in time. Today, Staff Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith, stated that the blaze is believed to be the result of an electrical fault.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “On 24 May at approximately 10 AM police proceeded to Santa Ana Street where they observed a two story structure which was on fire. One of the occupants reported that she left her home and present at the time were her three minor children the oldest being 14 years old. One of the minors reported that she had left her room and upon returning back she observed a fan, a Lasko fan being on fire. The fire authorities were summoned to the scene where they extinguished the fire which would have caused substantial damages and the initial indications is that the source of the fire is electrical.”

The home nor its contents were insured.
