Report Shows Major Progress in Belize Health Sector Over Seven Years

The final report for the Health Sector Support Programme Belize was released recently for the period, September 2018–September 2025.  According to the 86-page report, Belize’s healthcare system has recorded significant improvements in infrastructure, access, and service.  The programme modernized health facilities, strengthened disease prevention, and expanded care for vulnerable groups, positioning Belize to better respond to public health challenges.  Among the key achievements were the construction and rehabilitation of hospitals and clinics, upgrades in diagnostic and emergency care, expanded maternal and child health services, and the roll-out of digital health records. The HSSP also supported capacity-building for medical professionals, boosting efficiency and quality of care across the country.  The report notes that Belizeans are already benefiting from shorter waiting times, improved treatment options, and broader access to essential medicines. Government officials emphasized that the programme not only reinforced Belize’s national health priorities but also aligned with global commitments to universal health coverage.
