PM Welcomes Speaker Woods Back After Completing Cancer Treatment

As the house proceedings began this morning, one notable opening was the Prime Minister John Briceno giving a special welcome to the Speaker of the House, Valerie Woods who recently completed her last round of breast cancer treatment.

John Briceño, Prime Minister: “We’re so happy to see you back and that you’re looking in great form. Despite the scare, you look younger. But we are very happy. But at the same time, it’s important for me to put on the records of this honorable house. All of us are appreciative to the honorable member from Belize Rural North Marconi Leal, Jr. Despite young and age, I think he acted quite admirably during your time, during your absence. So again, I want to put to on record our appreciation for the work that Mr. Honorable Leal did during that time.”

Another announcement that came out of the House Meeting had to do with the renovations at the National Assembly building.  According to Speaker Woods, works are delayed which will see further sittings take place at the George Price Center.  Also notable in this morning’s session, was the presentation of a paper on Supplies Control by the recently installed minister Rodwell Ferguson who has the portfolio of agriculture, food security and enterprise.
