Police Constable Lionel Rodolfo Urbina, who is on interdiction and charged in connection with a deadly Caye Caulker stabbing, returned to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court yesterday.  Urbina appeared without an attorney and was provided with 145 pages of disclosure, including seven DVDs containing evidence the prosecution intends to rely on. He was escorted from the Belize Central Prison under heightened security. Urbina is charged with the murder of nineteen-year-old American student Kevin Matthew Depaz. He also faces two counts of attempted murder and two counts of use of deadly means of harm in relation to injuries allegedly sustained by Neesean Jaheim Allen and Julian Greg Canul.  The charges arose from an incident on June 30, 2025, near a fast-food establishment on Luciano Reyes Street in Caye Caulker. Police allege that an initial confrontation was followed by another altercation involving Urbina, another off-duty police officer and several civilians.  Depaz suffered a stab wound to his abdomen and was pronounced dead at the Caye Caulker Health Clinic. Allen and Canul were also injured.  Following an investigation and directives from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Urbina was charged, while the other officer initially detained was released.  Urbina was further remanded to the Belize Central Prison. His preliminary inquiry is scheduled to commence on October 21 at the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court.
