Belize police seek to improve image and relationship with public

The Belize Police Department hopes to improve its image and bolster its relationship with the public. The department has been plagued with instances of police officers being “trigger-happy” and killing individuals, with 14-year-old Laddie Gillett and 18-year-old Deandre Chui being the latest victims. Their deaths have since brought into question whether police are trained to shoot first and ask questions later. Minister of Home Affairs, Kareem Musa, explained that the government has been making to change this narrative.
