Project Finance for Permanence Unit working with NGOs to access Blue Bond Grants

Since the inception of the Blue Bond, the government has provided over fourteen point six million dollars to six governmental and nongovernment agencies dedicated to protecting Belize’s marine space. The monies were funneled to the agencies through the Belize Fund for a Sustainable Future via grants. The body is tasked with approving proposals and disbursing funds to aid in the preservation of marine ecosystems. However, according to Beverly Wade, Director of the Blue Bond and Project Finance for Permanence Unit, several proposals brought by various NGOs have not met the adequate requirements. Today, she noted that the organization is working with the agencies to strengthen their applications to ensure they are successful.

The body has approved and funded over a dozen projects geared at tackling pressing issues facing mariners and marine life.
