BAHA Intensifies Monitoring of Contraband Vegetables Ahead of Easter

The Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) is cracking down on contraband vegetables. BAHA issued a statement yesterday, announcing that it would be scaling up monitoring for contraband produce. The authority reminded all importers, suppliers, supermarkets, market vendors, and the public that importing agricultural products without proper documentation is an offense. BAHA said quote, “Anyone caught with illegal products will be fined and/or prosecuted. The body says as contraband activities may increase during the Easter season and increase the risk of the introduction of new pests and diseases, it and other regulatory agencies will intensify surveillance operations,” end of quote. Anyone with information regarding contraband production is urged to contact BAHA.
