Belizean athletes, Demetrie Myers and Brooklyn Lyttle are returning home with gold and bronze from the regional games in Grenada. In the Track and Field discipline, Myers earned a gold medal in the 3000 meters event while Lyttle captured bronze in the long jump event. Both medals were earned in the Under-17 category. Love News spoke with the Acting President of the Belize Athletics Association Jaheed Smith, who explained that the athletes performed well despite various challenges that they faced at the competition, including a lack of water.
Smith said that Belize took four athletes, two of whom were competing for the first time at the regional level. He stressed that, despite the difficulties of sending teams to compete, the venture is worthwhile to invest in the future of Belize’s athletes.
The games were played from Saturday March 30 to Monday, April 1. Minister of Youth and Sports Rodwell Ferguson was also in Grenada cheering the team on
