BPM Challenges Government’s Draft Representation of the People Bill

The Belize PEACE Movement (BPM) is keeping up the pressure in its fight against the government’s draft Representation of the People Bill, which will govern the redistricting exercise. Robert Lopez, a member of the BPM explains that the Bill in its current form is not only out of line with international norms but is also unconstitutional. He spoke on the technicalities of the proposed Bill, and why the BPM will not support this current draft.

The BPM voiced their disapproval of the Bill at the National Assembly yesterday and says that they are prepared to file an injunction at the High Court if the government does not come up with a draft that is in line with the constitution and international standards.
