Today’s sitting of the House was a special session to accommodate the passing of the Millennium Challenge Corporation Bill which had its three readings today. Prime Minister John Briceno presented on the MCC motion and the 250 million dollars that Belize stands to benefit from. It is quite a hefty grant being given to Belize which the government has referred to as free money. UDP’s Patrick Faber, however, is not buying into the free money speech, saying that Belize should take caution.

Patrick Faber, Area Representative, Collet: “And the fact that you are coming, receiving this grant under the guise of poverty, America doesn’t have money to waste so they will not give you money to fix a problem that you already have under control if what you are saying is true. And then Madam Speaker I join with both sides , both speakers or three speakers who have spoken before me to say thank you to the United States. The United States woke up and said alright let’s develop this Millennium Challenge plan and let’s have Belize be a part of it. Let’s o down that road for a minute and please nobody come misquote me, nobody go say anything contrary in fact the US has their ears to the ground I am sure and I’m not the United States but what I’m saying is whenever you see the US doing something it is as a part of a larger plan. This is historical. I watched as President Biden laid out his policy in his presentation a few days ago to NATO and they’re celebrating their 75th anniversary as NATO. They are very clear Madam Speaker, very crystal clear of what the agenda is, to keep the United States as as superpower and so everything that the United States does is geared toward an agenda for the United States.”
