Benque Viejo Fiesta Results in Significant Financial Loss for Town Council

Documents reaching our newsroom indicate that the Benque Viejo del Carmen Town Council may have suffered a great financial loss at the recently held fiesta in July.  After spending close to 39 thousand dollars on entertainment and more than 27 thousand on the rodeo show, the council saw a deficit of about 58 thousand dollars.  It is a stark contrast to years past when the Benque Fiesta was referred to as the Gallo de Oro due to the profits it would bring to the municipality.  Prime Minister Briceno was asked to weigh in on the matter which he did, although he had not been apprised of the actual figures.

John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “I’ve not been appraised but again in these instances sometimes they don’t have the proper collections and record keeping which is very important in these situations and I hope its s not so but if it is so and you can find the people who are responsible then we need to hold them accountable and just as important I hope that next year they learn from the errors and mistakes that they’ve done to ensure that this is not ever repeated again.”

The Benque Fiesta was held on July 13 and 14.
