Investigators Probe Alleged $1M Misappropriation at Belize Solid Waste Authority

Investigators continue to probe into an alleged misappropriation of funds at the Belize Solid Waste Management Authority. Last week, Love News broke the story of an estimated one million dollars reportedly misappropriated at the organization. The incident has since led to a director placed on administrative leave and a police report being filed. Today, Acting Prime Minister Cordel Hyde spoke about the incident and what he has been learned so far.

Cordel Hyde, Deputy Prime Minister: “I think that matter is with the police and so we’ve not gotten any update recently at the Cabinet level. We did get an update initially when the investigation first started that something had gone awry, there was some misappropriation or whatever you want to classify it as but it was under investigation at the ministry, the Ministry of Sustainable Development was complying with the police authorities in relation to this investigation but we’ve not gotten a receipt update on that so I imagine pretty soon there will be some determination.”

The Police Commissioner has confirmed that the report was made to Belmopan’s Criminal Investigation Branch to the matter.
