Firebrand Politician Julius Espat Announces Plans for Final Term Before Retirement

Firebrand politician Julius Espat says he plans to serve one more term in government before he retires from electoral politics.  Espat first began working directly in politics back in 2011 as an advisor to John Briceno who was then the Leader of the Opposition.  He then threw his hat in the election ring and was elected in 2012.  Since then he has established himself as a down to earth and brutally honest representative, known for his passionate and sometimes fiery speeches calling for an end to corruption. The 56-year-old is serving his third stint as a parliamentarian and is currently the Minister of Infrastructure Development and Housing. He was endorsed over the weekend as the PUP Standard Bearer for Cayo South.  This, however, may be his last endorsement as he is now looking to retire.

Julius Espat, Minister of Infrastructure Development and Housing: “Well that’s a political, that’s a phase. The party decided that they wanted all area reps to throw in their names and open it up. That was a time frame I think about Mike did a month, two months and nobody submitted their name in poor little Cayo South so I was the only one left and we will continue with pride to serve our people. So to me it’s an honor. Two times in opposition, one time in government, hopefully one more time I don’t think it will be more than one more time. The gray hairs are coming out, the stress on the family is immense, the love and dedication and passion that I have takes a bit out of you but I don’t do it anyway else or anywhere else or any other way. I am given a responsibility and I will do it to the best of my ability and when I can’t do more I will mentor somebody else to move on that’s what we have to do. But I’m not a career politician. I think one more shot and that will be enough for me.”

Espat is an architect by profession and is currently on a mission to provide ten thousand starter homes for first time homeowners before he retires.
