Last week the Ministry of Transport announced that the shortage of license plates and stickers that lasted over a year was finally over. As of Thursday, August 15, the department has been calling on Belizeans who have paid for their plates and stickers to bring in their receipts to collect them. Minister of Transport Rodwell Ferguson spoke on some of the delays the ministry encountered that caused the shortage, and the measures implemented to resolve the issue for good.

Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport: “I believe we have solved that issue and what I did when I got the sticker and license, I asked the Chief Transport Officer to do a country-wide notice that people can go and pick up their license across the country. That is in place right now.”
Reporter: What were some of the delays? What took so long for the department to get those?
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport: “It’s just maybe internal issues in terms of database. So we were able to put that database together and now it is under control. We asked for a minimum reorder level and a maximum reorder level. So in the future there shouldn’t be any problem with license plate and stickers.”
The Department of Transport has said that it expects an influx of people, given the length of the shortage, but the DOT is confident that it can handle the rush and ensure everyone gets their plates and stickers.
