Family in Northern Belize Victimized in Armed Home Invasion

A family in northern Belize became the victims of a brazen home invasion this morning. Just after seven o’clock, three masked men, two of whom were armed with pistols, barged into the home of 58-year-old Jovita Blanco in August Pine Ridge Village. The crooks demanded money and began ransacking the couple’s home before searching Blanco’s daughter’s house in the back of the yard. No one was hurt in the incident, but the men managed to make off with several hundred dollars Blanco saved for her son’s medical expenses. Our newsroom spoke to Blanco about the harrowing ordeal and how it has left her family in fear for their lives.

Blanco says that the authorities’ response time was extremely slow. She also added that the robbers indicated that they may have targeted the wrong home.
