Last night, 28 Belizean men and women were honored for their invaluable commitment and contribution to the development of Belize. The honors were bestowed upon them at the annual Tribute to Belizean Patriots. Held at the foot of the newly renovated Haulover Bridge, the event honored citizens whose lifelong service has left an indelible mark in various sectors. Governor General Dame Froyla Tzalam echoed the importance of honoring those who have helped shape the nation’s development and progress.
One of the highlights of the night was the recognition of the 1974 “Golden Girls” of Belize, the national softball team that brought home the country’s first gold medal. Prime Minister John Briceno paid tribute to the athletes, recalling the historic achievement.
The vibrant ceremony highlighted legacies of our very own Senior Correspondent Paul Mahung and other iconic Belizeans including Chico Ramos, Leroy “the Grandmaster” Young, Elda Gutierrez, Kathleen Flowers and Gilbert “Bertie” Ellis, Maureen Leslie, among others.
