PUP Endorses 29-Year-Old Devin Daly as Collet Division Standard Bearer, Sparks Excitement

The People’s United Party has completed its 31 endorsements with 29-year-old Devin Daly being the standard bearer for the Collet Division.  The endorsement took place at Independence Hall last night.  Despite Daly’s inexperience in politics, his candidacy has generated excitement among PUP supporters who believe that fresh leadership is needed for that constituency. Love News met up with Daly to find out what he is bringing to the proverbial table.

Devin Daily, PUP Standard Bearer, Collet: “I am born, raised and I live in Collet. I was always playing basketball on the same court. You know, grew up all my life as an athlete. Currently still in school and I’ve decided to offer myself to serve the people of Collet. I frequent my grandmother’s house right here on Iguana Street extension and I’ve just sensed this loss of hope by the people. You know, there’s no camaraderie. There’s no community events. There’s nothing, absolutely nothing, we’re not taking care of the elderly. No opportunities or career opportunities for our youth. Sporting events have gone, and it just seems like an abandoned constituency. And it’s evident that there’s no political will and lobbying being done by the area rep. So for me, I’m offering myself as a youth for the PUP to serve Collet.”

As a former basketball star, Daly has built a reputation for teamwork, discipline and leadership, qualities that are expected to translate into his political career. He says he believes his age and inexperience should not be a limiting factor.

Devin Daily, PUP Standard Bearer, Collet: “My perspective is what’s the age for politics? I am a registered legal voter. I think if you’re able to cast your vote on a ballot you definitely can show some representation for the community that you’re from. And that’s all I’m offering myself for. I’m here to listen. I’m here to feel the grounds and meet everybody from the community. But I don’t necessarily think that there’s a full-blown blueprint to it. I’m coming into it with an open mind, young, new energy. And my whole motto is service to the people, servant leadership. It’s not about me. It’s not about them. It’s about we. Collet needs a leader that will representing them the right way and create opportunities for the people. I feel really good because I feel like there’s been a positive energy from the people. One of the things that I said yesterday at the endorsement is that at once upon a time in this community that I was raised in and born in, you could tell certain families that were supported by the area rep. You drive around and you can’t tell who is necessarily benefiting from anything. You know, they’re abandoned and the people need representation. So for me, honestly, I’m not really focused on how I’m viewed as a youth. I’m not really here to get into the mud slinging or anything like that against the current area rep. I’m here to work and I’m here to serve the people. Okay so it’s about 3,400/3,500 voters and in this year alone there’s been 300 voters, 300 families that moved out from Collet and gone in different constituencies. And I think that’s a clear testament to the lack of faith they have in the current area rep. They don’t believe anything is here so they go out to try to find greener pastures.”

The general election is set to take place in 2025.
