Island Donors Squad Blood Drive Surpasses Target with New University Partnership

Over the weekend, the Island Donors Squad (IDS) hosted their latest blood drive at the Ambergris Hope Hospital on Ambergris Caye. Surpassing their 20-pint target, they were able to collect 27 units of blood. A key factor in the drive’s success was a new partnership between Washington University (WU) and Island Donors Squad. Fourteen WU students volunteered as Squad members for the day, playing an integral role by creating custom-designed vital cards for all donors. These cards included comprehensive medical information such as heart rate, respiration rate, temperature, oxygen levels, height, weight, body mass index, blood pressure, and random glucose readings. In addition to volunteering, WU students also raised $680 BZD at the “Dolla Drive” with contributions from local residents and vacationers.
