Businesswoman on Remand After Alleged Highway Pursuit and Shooting of Husband

Businesswoman Elvira ‘Gina’ Mulholland is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being charged for shooting her husband.  Mulholland was arrested on Friday evening and spent the weekend on lockdown at the Ladyville Police Station.  She was taken to court this morning for arraignment with legal representation from Lynden Jones.  Initially, she was given four charges but her arraignment had only three of those four charges read to her, specifically, attempted murder, harm and use of deadly means of harm.  The fourth charge would have been robbery as it is alleged that she took nine thousand dollars cash from her husband, Jeffrey, along with his IPhone 16.  The circumstances leading to the shooting are unclear, but best information suggests that 44-year-old Elvira ‘Gina’ Mulholland got into an altercation with her husband just before four o’clock on Friday evening.  The husband got into his truck and attempted to get away from their home at mile 12 on the Coastal Road, but his attempt was futile.  Love News understands that the wife pursued him on the highway, ran him off the road and got a hold of his firearm, shooting him in the leg and injuring him with a gash wound to the head.  The 59-year-old husband was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.  Police’s pursuit led to the detention of the wife just before six o’clock that evening. ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander of the Eastern Division elaborated on the occurrence.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division: “On the 25th day of October 2024 police responded to a shooting incident on the Coastal Road. Upon their arrival they saw a vehicle in a ditch. We received information that one male person had been shot. Police made checks at the KHMH where they found Jeffrey Mulholland with a gunshot injury. He reported that whilst on the Coastal Road he had a domestic dispute with his wife elmira Mulholland who took his licensed 9mm pistol and fired a shot at him. An investigation was carried out. Elvira Mulholland has since been arrested and charged for the c rime of attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, grievous harm and robbery. She was taken to court.”

Reporter: Sir we understand that she fled the scene on the back of a motorcycle with the assistance of another man, was that man detained and questioned by police ?

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division: “No we’re looking for that person. Thereafter she was apprehended.”

She has since been charged with attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, grievous harm, and robbery
