The trial of John Alexander Hendy, who is charged with a 2020 double murder, was called up in the Belmopan High Court today. Hendy is accused of the July 19 shooting in the parking lot of CK Sports Club in San Ignacio Town that claimed the life of Samuel Hill and Windell Trapp. Hendy appeared in court before Justice Francis Cumberbatch, and represented by attorney David McKoy. In court, the attorney challenged the validity of a caution statement that Hendy gave to police on the grounds that he was badly beaten into a confession. The matter has since gone into voir dire (a trial within a trial) with the crown and defence set to make submissions on November 14. Justice Cumberbatch will make a determination on the admissibility of the caution statement after those submissions. Hendy had been charged along with Travis Tyler Navarro, Minor and David Galindo. Both Navarro and Minor Galindo were acquitted in 2022 while David Galindo died in June. Love News understands that Hendy is the only one still on trial in connection with the double murder. During the double murder, three others sustained gunshot injuries, namely, Telesha McKay, Marquees Robateau, and police constable Danny Jimenez.
