Government of Belize to Revise KHMH Authority Act Amid Union’s Concerns Over Board Restructuring

The Government of Belize says it is working to refine the KHMH Authority Act following concerns from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority Workers Union (KHMHAWU). The union strongly opposed a recent amendment to the act that sought to restructure the hospital’s Board of Governors. The union argued that their right to representation on the board was being removed and given to the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB). However, this week, Prime Minister John Briceno explained the rationale behind the decision and stated that the union may have been misled.

Briceno further explained that in his recent meeting with the National Trade Union Congress of Belize issues raised by the hospital’s union were discussed in great detail.

Briceno added that the government will keep in close contact with the union.
