Belize Marks World Children’s Day With Call to Amplify Youth Voices

Today, Belize joined the international community in celebration of World Children’s Day, a Global Day of Action led by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). The day is observed annually and is dedicated to advancing children’s rights worldwide. This year’s theme was “Listen to the Future, Stand Up for Children’s Rights,” and sought to underscore the need to amplify youth voices. The Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Louis Zabaneh, spoke about the day’s significance.

Dr. Louis Zabaneh, Minister of State, MOECST: “It’s World Children’s Day and yes, you know, we have to celebrate our young people. We have to remember all the time that we’re working to make their future better. So that gives us more motivation to do the best that we can so that they can have even better opportunities than we did in our time. And that’s the measure of our success at the end of the day. What we can do for children to give them the right environment so that they can flourish and become the best that they can become.”

Activities were held in schools country-wide to celebrate the day.
