Ministry of Agriculture Concludes Post-COVID Value Chain Improvement Project with JICA

Today, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise held a closing ceremony for the “Advisory Services on Post COVID-19 Agricultural Value Chain Improvement in Belize” project. The venture was held in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and sought to empower local farmers. Since February 2023, the parties have worked closely to identify and support value chains for coconut, pitahaya, and potato crops. Chief Agricultural Officer Victoriano Pascual spoke on the project’s importance and how farmers from all six districts of Belize benefitted from extensive training.

Our newsroom also spoke to Kenichi Machida, the project’s lead consultant, about his experience working with local farmers and the long-term benefits of the project.

The project was also supported by the University of Belize, the BMDC, and the BTB.
