The political campaigns continue as all parties are hitting the ground hoping to gain enough traction for March 12. With much uncertainty within the UDP, we are yet to hear from the candidates on their campaign platform. For the PUP, however, Belmopan’s Oscar Mira, told Love News that the works he has delivered in his area have made him confident of a second term in office. Mira entered electoral politics in 2020 and has served as a military officer in Belize after which he moved to the diplomatic sector, working in the field of security. According to Mira, Belmopan served him well as a child and young adult, and this is now his way to pay it forward to his community.

Oscar Mira, Standard Bearer, Belmopan: “Belmopan is a vibe right now. It’s been transforming over the past four years.
Reporter: Okay would you say that going into this election that you’re more confident than the first time ?
Oscar Mira, Standard Bearer, Belmopan: “Of course we’re more confident. The work that we have put in in Belmopan shows. The people of Belmopan have been showing us so much love and if you notice today this is the crowd that came from Belmopan to support Oscar Mira.”
Reporter: And so in terms of your supporters how have they helped you during….
Oscar Mira, Standard Bearer, Belmopan: “It’s a team effort. I can’t do it myself. It’s a big team and the team has been working extremely hard to ensure that we deliver for Belmopan.”
Reporter: And so how do you respond to the critics going forward that say nothing has really happened in Belmopan this last term, how do you respond to them ?
Oscar Mira, Standard Bearer, Belmopan: “I haven’t heard that criticism because you know what if you walk Belmopan you will see the transformation in Belmopan. We have built bridges, not one, not two, we built three bridges. We have paved enough roads that they cannot say that we didn’t work in infrastructure. Comprehensive school right now free education, that was only a dream many years ago but all those kids that go to Comprehensive School right now have free education.”
Reporter: And so how do you feel about the persons that you will be contesting against this coming election ?
Oscar Mira, Standard Bearer, Belmopan: “Those guys are confused because they don’t know who is who. I get to understand that there are two other persons but John Saldivar has been rejected and he will be rejected again. Belmopan doesn’t want John Sadivar and the other person I have no idea who.”
PUP’s Florencio Marin Junior is in Corozal Southeast and says he is looking forward to another victory at the polls come March 12. Having been raised in a family with deep political passions and ties, Marin Junior says he is on the ground everyday going from house to house on the platform of development and opportunities.

Florencio Marin Jr, Standard Bearer, Corozal South East: “Extremely positive. I mean I’m doing a house to house, I’m trying to reach as much people as I can and what I like about it is we always engage on the issues, the things we have accomplished, the things we need to continue with and some of the things that we never get done. Because, you know, we’ll never get the hundred but I think we are at like a 95% and the Belizean and the Corozal South East voters I believe are quite contented and ready for another PUP term.”
Reporter: Alright, so if elected in the next election, would you prefer to stay at the same ministry or what will that look like?
Florencio Marin Jr, Standard Bearer, Corozal South East: “I prefer to leave that in the hands of the Prime Minister. Alright, you’re mischievous.”
Meanwhile, Standard Bearer for Stann Creek West, Rodwell Ferguson is also seeking re-election in his division. In recent weeks, Ferguson has boasted the distribution of dozens of land parcels, assistance in agriculture, education and housing given to residents. He noted that he is ready to continue the works for the good people of his division.
As the days progress, Love News will continue reporting on the campaigns from all political parties.
