GAF Caught in Belizean Waters, Deny Trespass and Wrongly Claim Entire Sarstoon River

GAF Caught in Belizean Waters, Deny Trespass and Wrongly Claim Entire Sarstoon River

Just after one o’clock this afternoon, a team from the Guatemalan Armed Forces (GAF) was encountered in Belizean waters by our BDF soldiers.  The BDF team leader then read from a script to inform the GAF, in Spanish, that they are traversing in Belize’s waters. The GAF would not accept that they are trespassing, and in turn told our soldiers that all of the Sarstoon River is a part of Guatemala.  Here is how that exchange went.

For context, the BDF soldier did ask the GAF to respect the boundaries and to respect the sovereign territory of Belize.  Love News understands that following the exchange, both patrols went their separate ways without further incident.  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is yet to issue a public statement on the confrontation.
