The Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries is partnering with Belize Blue Nutrients Limited to position the country as a leader in the global seaweed market. This collaboration aims to develop a sustainable, value-added seaweed industry with Belize Sea Moss as a premium export product. At the recent Belize Investment Summit 2025 held in San Pedro, the Ministry’s New Growth Industries (NGI) initiative highlighted the significant potential of Belize’s seaweed sector. Minister Kareem Musa participated in a panel discussion where he emphasized NGI’s role in attracting investment and praised Blue Nutrients for its commitment to the industry. Ginéé Neal, the Acting Director for NGI, stated that the partnership is focused on leveraging the “superfood” qualities of sea moss to create a range of innovative products. Blue Nutrients is currently developing a diverse line of goods, including nutraceuticals, powders, capsules, and skincare products. The company is also exploring cross-sector innovations, such as blending seaweed with charcoal for use in facial treatments. According to Neal, the ministry’s strategy is centered on economic diversification, sustainability, and community benefits, all while supporting environmentally responsible industries.
