The government is looking to improve the quality of life and opportunities for those living in rural areas across the country. Today, they officially launched a National Rural Development Strategy. The strategy identifies key priorities such as infrastructure, climate resilience, social services, and economic growth, and will guide policies and investments aimed at improving life in rural communities. Officials say it reflects a coordinated effort among government agencies, local authorities, and development partners CLIO, to support inclusive and sustainable rural development nationwide. Minister of Rural Transformation, Oscar Requena, said the strategy serves as a critical roadmap for enhancing livelihoods, expanding economic opportunities, and addressing long standing development challenges facing rural Belize.
Prime Minister John Briceño also delivered remarks, reaffirming the government’s strong support for the strategy. In his address, PM cited former Prime Minister Said Musa, underscoring the continuity of policy attention toward rural development. He emphasized that rural development must be closely linked to climate resilience, noting the urgent need for decisive action as climate change continues to impact Belize’s rural communities.
The launch ceremony was held today in the Caracol Hall of the Lord Ashcroft Centre in Belize City. The strategy was unveiled by the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development and Local Government in collaboration with the Belize Centre for Inclusive Excellence.
