Members of the Belize Defence Force will have more opportunities to pursue tertiary education following the signing of a scholarship agreement between the BDF and the University of Belize. The agreement builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in July last year, aimed at supporting the academic development of BDF personnel and strengthening their skills. Two soldiers are already studying at the University of Belize through the partnership. At today’s signing, Defence Minister Michel Chebat and University of Belize President Dr. Vincent Palacio said they hope to see more members of the Force take advantage of the opportunity. Major Emerson McKoy of the BDF’s Training and Doctrine Battalion says the programme is an investment in service members, helping to prepare them for leadership both within the military and beyond their years of service.
Both organisations say they expect the partnership to grow as they work together to create more opportunities for the men and women serving in the Belize Defence Force.
