BDF Commander, Brigadier General, Azariel Loria, says that after this incident, they realized that they need to work on getting a blood bank for their soldiers in the event of such emergencies. He added that while they work on getting that equipment, they are currently liaising with the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) to store blood bags that will be reserved for their soldiers.
Brig. Gen. Azariel Loria, Commander, Belize Defence Force: “What the force is doing now through our force medical officer we are trying to liaise with KHMH to see if we could donate blood that they could safe keep for us, any type of blood but more so now that we know that we have some of our soldiers, about ten to fifteen soldiers, that have some type of rare blood in the BDF that we could get them to donate and KHMH safekeeps it for us until we get on our feet and we could provide our own blood bank.”
Brigadier General Loria says that although the blood bank is intended to store blood for soldiers who might need it, it will be open for public use as well.
